The best part is the top shelf was only $5 and the bottom one $10, they fit together perfectly and hold almost all of my yarn, and look gorgeous! The guy who sold them to me said he rescued the bottom shelf (which has sliding glass doors) from an old house that was being demolished, he thinks it must be about 100 years old. So cool!

New shelves!
I have wasted hours and hours in the past month and a half since moving into my new apartment searching for the perfect (and affordable) shelves to store and display my yarn. Two days ago, I finally was successful! I found out about a garage sale in my area on craigslist, sent out a mass email to the school looking for someone with a car, found a ride, and there were the PERFECT shelves there! I spent the evening cleaning them up and putting away my yarn. I'm so in love with them, I seriously stood there for about 5 minutes after finishing just grinning at the display

Mini soaps
I always love it when I recieve a "freebie" with an etsy order, it dosn't bother me when I don't get anything other than what I ordered, but a little something extra and unexpected always makes me so happy. For a while I've wanted to start including something with my packages but couldn't come up with the "right" thing, that is, until now! I started toying with the idea of making some mini felted soaps a couple of weeks ago and finally today I did something about it. I had my first sale since August on Friday night and that gave me the push I needed to get them done.
I'm really happy with how they came out!
I cut up a normal size bar of soap from Morganstreet into 6 pieces, and then felted each one normally. Because they're so small they went really quickly. One of them (the purple and blue one on the far left) has a bare spot at one end where the wool was too thin so I may just have to keep it for myself :) They are a perfect travel size! Maybe I'll bring it with me next time I go away somewhere. I'm also thinking about making a bunch more and trying a promo like the little black box.

I think sometime in the future (maybe over winter break) I'll put together a soap felting tutorial to post here.

Here goes nothing...
Or something? maybe.
I admit that I am begining this blog as an advertising method. After reading day after day in the Etsy forums about how blogging is a wonderful way to drive traffic to your store I figured, hey, I have a little time this afternoon (an unusual occurrence) why not try it out? I figure I may enjoy it, and perhaps someone else will enjoy reading it. I'm not sure where it will go from here, perhaps some tidbits from my life, projects, doccumenting as my new studio comes together(!), etsy sellers I like/admire, who knows. :)
First, a nap, I was up until 2 at a friend's birthday party and then woke up at 5 to go to sunrise shabbat services atop Cadillac mountain. Then, some felting and maybe finally getting my loom warped (it has been in storage all summer and finally moved in last week, oh you sure missed all the drama since I'm only starting this now...) before going off to wait tables, in Bar Harbor, on Columbus day weekend. Wish me luck!
